The Good News: Barack Obama and his Democratic leaders running the House and Senate did not get the message coming out of the Massachusetts election of Republican Senator-Elect Scott Brown. After more than a week of looking for signs, it's clear Obama, Pelosi, and Reid (OPR) are as blind to reality today as they have been since election day in November 2008.

It's hard to imagine how they can view the devastating electoral losses they incurred in Virginia, New Jersey, and Massachusetts as anything other than total rejection of their policies. But Obama and his comrades have stated that they just haven't been clear enough in their communication with the American people. See you're too stupid to figure out what they're doing is good for you. So they're hell-bent on shoving through their leftist ideology/policies down your throats regardless your support or lack thereof. In the end, you'll thank them.

I recall back in early 1994 watching Sam Donaldson and Cokie Roberts on This Week with David Brinkley stating that Bill Clinton "just hadn't found his voice yet." That was the reason American voters weren't buying into HillaryCare and his leftist agenda. The underlying message was once again that the electorate was just too stupid to get it. Some things never change.

Why is this good news? Because it's the best of all worlds for conservatives hoping to retake control of Congress this fall. OPR will spend the next several months trying to push through their policies. This will continue to infuriate the electorate. As such, just enough Democratic Senators and Congressmen will understand their political survival is at stake and will join with the Republicans to kill OPR's legislative efforts.

My concern after Scott Brown's massive victory in Massachusetts on January 19 was that OPR would wake up. Smell the coffee. Realize their hold on power was in serious jeopardy. They would then change their ways ("pivot") and transform into likable moderates thereby lowering the number of seats in Congress the GOP will win this November.

But after last night's "State of Obama" speech and previous rhetoric coming from OPR, it's clear that won't be the case. They've convinced themselves the country has jerked leftward, way leftward and that their brand of socialism is what the electorate had in mind when they handed them the reigns of power in November 2008.

Good. Such delusion will only serve conservative candidates very well on November 2, 2010.

Unless you've been living under a rock for the past week, you are probably aware there's an unexpectedly hot US Senate race brewing in Massachusetts right now. Election day is this Tuesday.

What everyone (and I mean everyone) thought would be a Democrat blow-out to retain Ted Kennedy's seat has suddenly turned out to be a tight race. Truly shocking news when one considers that Massachusetts is probably the bluest of blue states in the union.

Just a week ago, the Boston Globe was telling us Democrat candidate Martha Coakley had a 17 point lead over Republican Scott Brown. But a string of recent polls have indicated support for Coakley was dwindling quickly and Brown was making major progress. Today, PJM/Cross Target reports their polling give the Republican candidate a 15 point lead. If that's even close to being accurate, the Democratic Party is in big, big trouble.

There are multiple reasons for this turn of events. Martha Coakley has turned out to be a lousy candidate. She's one of those liberal elites who's just stupid enough to tell people what she actually believes. The most recent example: Coakley told a radio host that if you're a Catholic, you probably should not be working in hospital emergency rooms since those workers must provide emergency contraception whether they're morally opposed or not. There should be no conscience clause for nurses, doctors, or other medical professionals working in America's emergency rooms. After all, there IS a "separation of church and state," ya know. She actually said that.

This follows that "incident" earlier in the week (see previous posting) of having one of her thugs smack around a reporter. And that was preceded by an abysmal performance in a televised debate in which she claimed, among other things, that all terrorists were out of Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, Republican candidate Scott Brown seems to have not only hit his stride but has tapped into a very popular promise: To be the 41st vote to kill ObamaCare. If the polls are accurate, perhaps there are enough Massachusetts residents who realize government control over their health care isn't a good idea. They've gotten a big taste of it through RomneyCare - Massachusetts' state version of government health care passed into law and signed by then-governor Mitt Romney. The state program is way over budget and improvements in coverage and quality of care have failed to materialize. Maybe, just maybe the citizenry of Massachusetts realizes ObamaCare is RomneyCare on steroids and will only make an already bad situation worse.

There remains a little voice in the back of my head telling me to not get my hopes up too high with Tuesday's election. Massachusetts is still a Democrat-dominated state and the Left will move heaven and earth to retain Teddy Kennedy's seat. Dirty tricks by the Left will likely abound over the weekend and The Boston Globe or some other leftist media outlet will make news with "newly discovered evidence/allegations" that Scott Brown is the sleaziest person to ever walk the earth. The Left will stop at nothing so be mentally prepared for some false but sensational allegations to hit the fan between now and Tuesday.

Regardless the outcome, the very fact that this is even considered a close race tells us everything we need to know about the mood of the American electorate. This follows major Republican victories in governors races in New Jersey and Virginia last November. All of this gives us a glimpse of the coming Armageddon the Democrats running Congress will face this November. And maybe, just maybe some Democrats in Congress will wake up and choose self-preservation over political suicide and finally kill ObamaCare themselves.

Well, one can always dream.

Upon leaving her fund raiser (heavily sponsored by fat cats in the health industry), Weekly Standard reporter John McCormack asked the Democrat hoping to fill Ted Kennedy's Senate seat if she stood by her claim in Monday night's debate that there were no longer any terrorists in Afghanistan.

Coakley was quoted as saying, "does anyone else have a question?"

Shortly thereafter, journalist John McCormack was reportedly pushed to the ground by someone in Coakley's entourage and then roughed up in an attempt to keep the reporter from asking Coakley any further questions.

McCormack's account of the incident is here.

Rasmussen Reports released the findings of their latest polling out of the very blue state of Massachusetts. Republican Senate Candidate Scott Brown is said to be within 2 points of Coakley.

Thug-like actions taken by Coakley's entourage as seen here would suggest there is more than a little stress in her campaign at the moment. Anything less than a 15 point blowout by Democrat Coakley would be seen as a devastating embarrassment for her party and yet another ominous sign for their electoral chances this November.

The following video was posted on YouTube.

DCuz

Goodbye 2009

A few random thoughts to bring 2009 to a close...

First and foremost, thanks to all of you who read this blog and to those who've chosen to contribute your thoughts. Whether we agreed or disagreed on particular issues, we always encourage your participation and respect your viewpoints.

Boy did 2009 suck. Sorry to be so frank but no sense in dancing around the fact. Every American felt the suck-age in one way or another this past year. Like so many millions of other Americans, I personally saw many co-workers and friends lose their jobs due to a floundering economy. I managed to hold on after seeing a significant pay cut and am now the only person left in a department previously staffed by three administrators. Yes, I know. And yes, I'm grateful just to have a job.

What's so frustrating is that despite all the hot air coming out of Washington and the cheer-leading by a compliant national press, Obama and his minions have done nothing to truly encourage economic revival. To the contrary, they've only compounded the problem by racking up unfathomable debt and creating a massive new entitlement program that will significantly lower the quality of life in America and bankrupt our nation.

It's plausible that in spite of Obama-nomics, our economy will manage to grow in the coming year. But virtually no economist envisions significant job growth at any time in the foreseeable future. The term "jobless recovery" is already becoming a worn out phrase among the talking heads. But, regrettably, that appears to be in our immediate future.

There are ways to truly stimulate the economy - cut taxes, cut taxes, cut taxes, and get government out of the way. But these are not on the Democrats' agenda.

Regarding "health care reform," news comes today the Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson finds himself on the Drudge Report's "Death Watch" list. Rasmussen Reports polling shows his popularity plummeting among his constituents. He isn't up for re-election until 2012 but is already down 30 points against a possible Republican challenger. It's so bad, the Senator is paying for a television ad to air during this evening's Holiday Bowl. Nelson hopes to dispel all those nasty rumors and lies about health care reform and his deciding vote to push our nation down the path to socialized medicine.

The Democrats are in very big trouble with the American electorate and with their 2010 agenda, it's hard to imagine them recovering. Massive tax hikes, moving terrorist detainees to Illinois, amnesty for illegal immigrants, card-check, more bailouts, and cap-n-tax are just a few issues on the table in the coming year.

We ended 2009 with a failed terrorist attack on a Northwest Airlines flight from Amsterdam to Detroit. The terrorist failed to detonate plastic explosives in his underwear ("is that a bomb in your pants or are you just happy to see me??" - sorry, couldn't resist).

Obama's knee-jerk reaction? Blame Bush. He claims that security procedures that have been in place for years were to blame. Not he nor his administration's policies were to blame. Don't be silly. Will this child of a president ever grow up and accept responsibility for anything? Don't hold your breath.

So yes, 2009 sucked. Will 2010 be better? I'm a tad pessimistic about that. While generally a glass-half-full kind of person, there's little indication circumstances will improve for the majority of us in the coming year. But who knows? There's always hope.

KCuz and I wish you and all those you love a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2010.

DCuz
Baucus Drunk on the Senate Floor

POLITICO: On his Facebook page, former congressman Mark Foley commented on the

Who do you believe? Harry Reid and his claim he's virtually nailed down the 60 votes he needs to pass some sort of Health Care Reform legislation? Of course, having reportedly gutted the bill of its expansion of Medicare to those as young as 55 and removed the "public option" all in an effort to appease Independent Senator Joe Lieberman, who knows what is left of this Senate bill?

Since the Left is desperate to get at least the framework that will lead to single-payer, socialized medicine, it's clear to any thinking person who still cherishes their liberty to be against anything currently being debated. It may be a brain-dead assertion but if Reid/Pelosi/Obama are for it, I'm definitely against it. That's a healthy knee-jerk reaction to start with regardless what they propose.

There seems to be this conventional wisdom that virtually all Democrats in the Senate would vote for this monstrosity if it included the public option or lowering the age eligibility for Medicare. But is that really true? Based on polling data, the overwhelming majority of voters are dead set against any HC plan coming out of Washington. Are all these Democrat Senators prepared to sacrifice their re-election just to pass the government take-over of 1/6th of our economy?

Or is it more likely that only a few Senators - namely Lieberman and Ben Nelson - are the ones willing to publicly step forward and take the heat from their party's Leftists for being less than loyal? This while there are several other Democrat Senators quietly lurking in the background praying they do not have to cast an actual vote on this legislation. These Senators are being screamed at every day by their constituents. They're being flooded with phone calls, emails, and faxed messages all shouting demands that they kill any Washington-imposed "reform" of our health care system.

I have a gut instinct there are more than a few Democrat Representatives and Senators who would be secretly elated if this whole issue would just go away at this point. They know they're in trouble with voters already. Actual passage of any Democrat bill will result in brand new taxation of their constituents next year without any actual "benefits" being dispersed to the masses for another 4 years. Gee, that should play well back home. Take home less pay and have absolutely nothing to show for it. Brilliant.

Speaking of taxes, you've likely heard by now that the Democrats want to form some sort of "bi-partisan commission" to tackle the issue of deficits - an issue they created for themselves by spending our future into oblivion.

Note to Republicans: RUN - don't walk - RUN from this idea as quickly as you can!

This is only a trick by which Democrats will decide, after much public himming and hawing and deliberating, that everyone's taxes must go up. The only purpose for having Republicans on the commission is to provide bi-partisan cover for their plans to confiscate still more of our hard-earned incomes in the form of spiked taxes. They want to take away the tax-and-spend issue Republicans will have in next year's election. How better to inoculate themselves from that charge than to form a bi-partisan commission that includes Republicans (RINO's) supporting these new taxes?

The Democrats have total and complete control over everything in Washington. They do not need Republicans to pass any legislation. Do not provide them with any help whatsoever under any circumstances.

NOTHING GOOD CAN COME OF THIS! RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN AWAY FROM THIS PERILOUS, DASTARDLY, AND EVIL PLAN!

For weeks now, polls have been popping up all over concurring that President Obama's approval ratings are going south - big time. Despite his continued whining that everything bad that's happening is George Bush's fault and something Barack unfairly inherited, the voters are waking up to what all that Hope and Change really means for their future, the future of their children and their nation. They are not amused.

Polls across the board also point out how dreadfully unpopular the idea of Congress revamping one-sixth of our economy is. There is overwhelming opposition by the public for ObamaCare. We instinctively know that our out-of-pocket health care costs will only go up while the quality of and access to health care will inevitably go down with the impending government take-over.

Polls have consistently shown growing opposition to card-check (forced unionization of the private workforce) and Cap-N-Tax. Voters are strongly against a second "stimulus" masquerading as a jobs plan. They realize the first boondoggle was nothing more than three-quarters of a trillion taxpayer dollars (new debt actually) squandered to pay off the Democrat's allies in the unions and elsewhere. It's done nothing to boost our economy and only left our kids and grandkids even further in debt. Using repaid TARP dollars will just be more of the same with the same ineffectual results.

Today, President Obama announced that the federal government must continue to "spend our way out of this recession."

Wow. That's just incredibly breath-taking in its utter audacity and stupidity.

So given all this I've found myself countless times asking: What are they thinking? Are they just plain stupid? Or are they so blinded by their leftist ideology that they refuse to notice the voting public is about to kick them out of power? Do they really believe Bill Clinton's cockamamie claim that the reason the Dems lost control of Congress in 1994 was because they DIDN'T pass HillaryCare?

Are they just living in a parallel universe that is entirely detached from reality?

These people aren't that stupid and/or detached, are they? Do they not realize there is an election coming up in less than one year and every day we get closer to it the more seats the Democrats will lose in both houses of Congress?

Why would these politicians - especially those in Congress - ignore the will of their constituents? There are countless reports that Congressmen and Senators refuse to take calls from their constituents expressing concern. Others are refusing to return to their districts or states to avoid confrontation with their voters. They are purposely shutting out the voices of the voters back home.

Why are they allowing themselves to be led to electoral slaughter by the far left running their party and Washington DC?

One might conclude they forgot it is the voters who get to decide elections. Or maybe it's something else.

Does this sound like a Majority Leader on the verge of victory for ObamaCare?

"Instead of joining us on the right side of history, all the Republicans can come up with is, 'slow down, stop everything, let's start over.' If you think you've heard these same excuses before, you're right," Reid said Monday. "When this country belatedly recognized the wrongs of slavery, there were those who dug in their heels and said 'slow down, it's too early, things aren't bad enough.'" ...

"When this body was on the verge of guaranteeing equal civil rights to everyone regardless of the color of their skin, some senators resorted to the same filibuster threats that we hear today."

That's what Dem Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid had to say on the floor of the US Senate today.

It's worth noting that it was the DEMOCRATS who "dug in their heels" against a Republican president who freed the slaves and it was Southern DEMOCRATS who threatened a filibuster on civil rights legislation back in the mid-60's. But hey, that's a minor point.

Sounds to me like the desperate flailings of a Dem party leader on the verge of losing not only ObamaCare but also his own re-election in Nevada…

DCuz

Will the Parasites Pass this Abomination?

Are they oblivious? Or are they just so hell-bent on shoving government-run "health care" down our throats that they'll sacrifice their own re-elections and their children and grandchildren's futures just to get it done?

Virtually every poll being taken shows that the vast majority of Americans want no part of the Obama/Pelosi/Reid scheme to socialize 1/6th of our economy. Any honest thinking person realizes any government plan will result in lower-quality care at a much higher price tag - the worst of both worlds.

There will be rationing of your health care.

There will be long lines due to an ever decreasing number of physicians willing to be paid $0.20 on the dollar for their services.

Any incentive to advance medical science and procedures will be wiped away.

There will be a Washington bureaucrat standing between you and your doctor who will decide for you what medical services you will be allowed to receive.

And you'll get all this at a cost far higher than you're paying presently.

Oh, and if you decide to NOT pay for your own health coverage, the Feds will throw you in prison for 5 years.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's health care bill has been voted out of committee and will be debated upon over the next month. Conventional wisdom indicates no vote will be taken by the Senate until after the first of the year. If passed, the bill then goes to the Conference Committee where representatives of both the House and Senate will hammer out a compromise to be voted on in both chambers for final passage and then sent to the White House for the President's signature.

Conventional wisdom also informs us that this will be an ugly, uphill battle to get passed and the likelihood of final passage is very small. But then again…

Louisiana's Senator Mary Landrieu took a $300 million bribe in taxpayer money to vote in favor of bringing the Senate bill out of committee and onto the floor for debate. Who knows how much taxpayer money was squandered on other Senators and Congressman for their votes. The parasites running Washington promise us their socialized medicine will cost less that $1 Trillion dollars (another lie know one is buying). But the bribes-for-votes program promises the actual price tag will well exceed today's cost estimates.

So the question remains: With so much public opposition to these Washington "fixes," with the approval ratings plummeting for both President Obama and his fellow socialists in Congress, and with the obvious fact that we simply cannot afford yet another massive entitlement program that will add trillions more on to our national debt, will these idiots in Washington still pass this abomination into law? Will they do so with the full knowledge that they will be booted out of Congress in the next election and will lose control of the House of Representatives and maybe even the Senate?

It's hard to imagine the feckless scum running Congress would do so. But at this point, nothing would surprise me any more.

After one year of daily assaults and denigration by the Left of the liberty and freedoms we cherish, voters in several states sent a loud and clear message: "Knock it Off!!"

Massive Republican victories in Virginia and New Jersey grabbed all the headlines but there was another race on the state level in Michigan that shouldn't be dismissed either. It too may be a bellwether for what's to come in Michigan's electoral politics one year from now.

Mike Nofs, the Republican candidate for the state senate, won a massive majority in yesterday's special election: 61% to 34%. This Michigan senate seat was held by the Democrat's Mark Schauer who vacated the seat a year ago. This victory by Republican Nofs represents a pick up of a seat for the GOP in the state senate - the only branch of state government controlled by the Republicans. After last night's victory, Republicans now hold a 22 to 16 majority in the state senate.

A GOP victory in this swing district that includes portions of Calhoun and Jackson Counties (Battle Creek area) is nothing to sniff at. Instead, this may be just a taste of what's to come in next year's statewide elections in which all state senate and house of representative seats will be up for election along with Michigan's governorship.

The winds of change may finally be blowing in Michigan. Let us hope conservatives nominate outstanding candidates through the coming primaries who will then effectively sell their message of how they will fix Michigan to the voters.

Congrats Mike. Thanks for showing us the way to victory for our party and, more importantly, for the citizens of our great lakes state.

It's been almost one year since Barack Obama and the Democrats won control over the White House, House of Representatives, and the Senate. American voters have had the chance to see what the most liberal president ever to occupy the Oval Office has in store for them. In many respects, tomorrows elections in Virginia, New Jersey, and a special House race in New York will give all of us a reading of the electorate's mood.

According to the most recent polls, it would appear New York Conservative Party (3rd party) Congressional candidate Doug Hoffman is now firmly in the lead. You'll recall the New York state GOP party bosses handed the nomination (no primary) for this Congressional seat to a liberal so far left she makes Van Jones blush. That candidate dropped out of the race on Saturday and vindictively threw her support to the Democrat nominee. But the most recent polling suggests Conservative Party candidate Hoffman now enjoys a 17 point lead. This number seems suspiciously high but clearly the momentum is with Hoffman.

Despite aggressive campaign support from Obama and his minions, the Democrats look poised to lose the governorship and many "down ballot" candidates in Virginia. Polling data indicates Republican Bob McDonnell continues a large lead - the RCP average is now +13.8 McDonnell. Turnout will be a key factor here (as with all races). While Obama won Virginia last year, it's becoming clear that was a one-time fluke and Virginia is turning decidedly more red - likely as a result of the direction Obama wants to take this country.

Then there's the state of New Jersey and their governor's race. This race is said to be tied according to polling. The RCP average gives Republican Chris Christie a 1 point advantage. Nowhere is the energy and momentum issue more important. Both sides will be pouring in resources to get out their vote. But who is more motivated? It's just a guess, but I suspect the energy is with those who are right of center with their politics. This may be a "nail-biter" of an election but no one should be surprised if Mr. Christie wins by 5-8 points.

The White House is already downplaying the significance of these electoral contests. That's a sure sign they concur with analysis such as this. Obama's cheerleaders in the press will surely express the same sentiment tomorrow night and in the days to come. But they do so at their own peril. Ignoring the message coming from these early contests in advance of the 2010 mid-terms will only ensure massive losses in those races for the Democrats.

Perhaps the leftists leaders in control of the agenda in Washington already know this. Maybe they believe it's far more important to implement that agenda no matter the cost knowing that once they are in place, they're impossible to reverse. It's possible they know their fate is already sealed so why not throw all caution to the wind and jam through as much of their freedom-stealing legislation as possible.

While it may work to the electoral advantage of conservatives for the liberals to proceed full steam ahead, the damage done to what was once known as America may be impossible to fully repair.

DCuz
The First Wave of a Swelling Tide - Part II

According to the AP:

ALBANY, N.Y. — Fighting plunging support, Republican Dierdre Scozzafava abruptly suspended her campaign Saturday in the 23rdCongressional District special election that has exposed a rift among national factions of the party.

Campaign spokesman Matt Burns said Scozzafava thinks stepping aside is for the best of the party. He said Scozzafava is essentially withdrawing from the race, although her name will remain on Tuesday's ballot.

"It is increasingly clear that pressure is mounting on many of my supporters to shift their support," Scozzafava said in a written statement. "Consequently, I hereby release those individuals who have endorsed and supported my campaign to transfer their support as they see fit."

10/30/09:

The off-off-year election is just a few days away and it really is beginning to feel like déjà vue all over again. Conservatism is on the ascendancy and the results from Tuesday's elections in Virginia, New Jersey, and New York may well signal the successful return of conservatism in the next 2010 mid-term elections.

Looking at the latest trends and polls, it really does feel like the1993 GOP victories that were the precursor to that Party's 1994 electoral romp which gave control of both the US House and Senate to the Republicans. It stopped Bill and Hillary Clinton's leftward march dead in their tracks.

In Tuesday's election, it would appear the conservative candidates running for governor in Virginia and New Jersey will end up victorious as will the conservative 3rd party candidate in New York's special US House of Representatives election. Note: There is no chicken counting going on here. I realize they've yet to hatch and it ain't over until it's over (and every other cliché you can think of…), but there is a sense the tide is turning.

Should there be a conservative sweep in these 3 elections, one of the primary reasons will be because our side of the political spectrum is aching to get to the polls. Voter turnout is everything in every election. Last November, there was an overwhelming desire to repudiate George W. Bush and vote for change - any change. Just one year later, sentiment among voters has begun to flip the other direction. It's as though the electorate forgot what liberal change really means and why they hate it more than the Republicans. Mr. Obama and his minions in Congress have done more to resuscitate the GOP than anything ever could- almost exactly the same impact Bill and Hillary and their Democrat-dominated Congress had on the electorate in '93 & '94.

All the energy and momentum going into Tuesday's elections is with the conservative candidates.

Obama and his faithful followers and stenographers in the press will write these victories off as mere blips - hardly a national referendum on Washington's leftward lurch. They've convinced themselves that America really wants single-payer, government-run health care, cap-n-tax, unions forced on all businesses big and small, massive tax hikes, and an even bigger, stronger central government in Washington. Let's hope they truly believe it. From a conservative's perspective, far better to keep them in denial.

But victory for the conservatives in Tuesday's elections may also convince enough "moderate" Democrats currently in Congress that they must abandon the Obama/Pelosi/Reid agenda in order to save their own political carriers. There are some 50 House seats in districts previously won by George W Bush in 2004 that narrowly elected Democrats last fall. Those seats are in serious jeopardy of being lost to the Republicans. There are also several Democrat Senators up for election next year from states Bush won in 2004 as well. Even Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is in serious trouble in his election campaign. His approval numbers in the state of Nevada are in the basement.

Much of The Left's agenda in Washington is already at risk no matter Tuesday's outcome. But if the conservatives win next week, we may be able to pronounce many of Obama's initiatives dead.

DCuz

Wrong end Mr. President......

Thanks to my Cuz's Cuz...
